On comments on the Leucadian blog, the usual angry ranters have come to the realization that I am on the City of Encinitas youth commission. Following this revelation, there has been much discussion on the merits (or lack there of if you are one of the ranters) of said commission and my activity on it. Below are my beliefs about the commission I currently sit on.
First let it be noted that online when I comment on something or make a post, I do it as a person, not as a youth commissioner and that anything I say should be viewed as a reflection on me and my views, not as a reflection on that commission.
According to the 2000 census, the City of Encinitas is made up by 25.1% youth. Anyone who disagrees with the existence of the youth commission thus believes that the City of Encinitas should ignore the ideas, beliefs, and wants of the youth which makes up almost exactly 1/4 of its residents, simply because those residents are young and not eligible to vote. This idea of abolishing the youth commission is amazing to me. You are really going to say that the city should do away with its only program that helps to represent and give a voice to 1/4 of its residents.
The reason the youth commission is so important, is because it gives the more informed and active youth an opportunity to represent that 25% of residents. One person complained about the fact that there is a youth commission representative on the General Plan Update Committee. Do you really believe that the city should turn a blind eye to ALL of its youth? This would go against some of the core beliefs this city stands for: you'll note that on all city agendas it is stated that: "The above mentioned agencies are equal opportunity public entities and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age" Please notice that it mentioned AGE.
Many have said that I am too uninformed or too 'crazy' to be on this commission. If anyone believes this, I give them the opportunity to speak to the city council to ask to have me removed from the commission. Just let me know via comment on this post when you're going to do it so that I can represent my side of the story to the council. Also, if you think the city should abolish the youth commission go ahead and present that one to the youth commission as well (same applies about giving me notice).

Baloo, I am sorry that i said you were ADD or OCD. You went on quite a frenetic rant for a while. No one was sure what you were talking about with the deleted posts. I had seen you post before but i was not sure what your angle was on the other blog. There are many that have their own angles and adgenda on that blog. If you are connected in any way to government, even if you just have friends who work for this city, they will continue to attack you and think you are a lower life form than them. Some anons will never agree to disagree and will tear you down personally. Keep posting and speak your mind. Try to be respectful even though it's hard sometimes. You have moxie kid. FYI: Loser Leucadian is a sarcastic handle that makes fun of some the superior thinking anon attackers on the other blog. They cant stand losing anything.
ReplyDeleteThank you LL, I hear your message and appreciate it! I think you've got the right idea on the constant agitators out there.
ReplyDeleteAnd get ready, because someone surely will come before the council and whine about you and your position with the youth commission. It takes guts to spar with the angry anon attackers with your real name.
ReplyDeletetrust me LL I'm ready:
ReplyDeleteI lack wit and prose; not intelligence, guts and cunning.
HI Baloo: If you don't mind I would like to reiterate what I said on the Leucadia Blog. However, before I do that let me say that I, for one, am glad that our youth, whatever that number is, are participating in our democracy. Us old folks wont be around forever:) As a youth commissioner you have a great responsibility to represent the youth in Encinitas. There are many ways to do that. I have learned the hard way that the best way is to be polite, civil, and have your facts right. That does not mean everyone who posts does this. I am just suggesting, as I did before, that by admitting you are on the Youth Commission, you set yourself up to a higher standard. I, too, am in that boat. It is not always easy to let people trash you and not respond However, sometimes that is the higher road. Both J.P. and Kevin, have had their blog going for many years. They have a following that comes with having an older blog. A lot of people are frustrated and upset about what is going on in our community. If you want to contribute, you can make sure you have your facts straight, and your game face on to post on that blog. I post quite often, and I get trashed quite often. As I am a psychologist, I sort of let it roll off of me. Once in a while I have a Lorri fit, and people call me out on it. You have a lot to contribute. If you want to be effective, make your comments as accurate as possible and show as much respect as you can, even for lame posters. It takes courage to post under your own name, and as you can see, most on the LB do not. Some of them work for the City and cannot risk it, others are just cowards. Please take this comment as it is meant. I am only trying to help, not hinder your free speech. I take the first amendment seriously, but also remember the LB does not have to post anything that they do not want to. It is not like a newspaper, or something of that nature. It is a blog and nothing more. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you or the COmmission. With respect, Dr. Lorri
